Oceansize lanzó el álbum "Effloresce" en 2003. Este álbum fue recibido con muy buenas críticas. Ya antes de que se pusiera de venta el disco, esperaron mucho de Oceansize. Incluso les fue otorgado el premio de "mejor grupo no contratado" de Manchester. No obstante, Oceansize es bien diferente a otros grupos de la ciudad del Britpop. Nada de influencias de los Stone Roses, sino más bien de Helmet, Tool y Jane's Addiction.

"We started to get this backlash of people who kind of took the music offensively because it was like we were invading their turf with music that doesn't represent their town. It took along time for that scene to die."
